Let’s talk about some of the changes in society and the way they have affected what we do in the church today:
- Does America have a stronger Christian identity than it did 40 years ago?
- How has the Church in America changed in the last 40 years?
- How do you feel about the Church’s ability to influence America in the future?
- What does our church need to do to be an effective influence in our community?
Responding to Post Modernism
This week at Bible Study we will talk in depth about post modernism. This is going to be a challenge for both me and the participants. Here is an article by Ravi Zachariahs. I’ll be posting another one that is in much more detail and academic. Ravi makes this subject as simple as anyone can.
Happy Thursday Church! April 24, 2014
I hope you are having a blessed week! I want to give you credit . . . for a church that traditionally has not had Easter week services you came out and supported the two extra services last week very well. Many that attended the services commented that the services were meaningful for them and made the Easter week a greater time of reflection. I have a favor to ask those that attended last Thursday and Friday: if you liked the services, invite others to attend next year. If you didn’t attend this year, plan to attend next year. I find these service stir something in us that no other services do.
This Sunday at Zion!
This week I’m starting a new sermon series: “REAL Answers 2 the BIG Questions” From Exodus 3&4 – Moses and the burning bush. In his unprecedented conversation with God Moses is often criticized for questioning God about God’s will for his life. I don’t think God was threatened by those questions, and as a matter of fact I believe God welcomes questions because when we sincerely ask questions we become more open to God speaking truth into our lives. I invite you to ask these same questions of your life. This week we look at the very philosophical question “Who Am I?” The answer is simple yet life changing when we can see ourselves how God invites us to see ourselves.
Child Protection Class:
Our first child protection class is this Sunday during Sunday School in the Social Hall. All our youth volunteers will need to take this class by the end of 2014 so if you’re free this Sunday during Sunday School plan to attend and get it over with.
Sunday Night is Family Night at the YMCA– 6:30 pm. Join with other families from Zion for a fun night at the “Y.”
Walk for Life: We have many people comprising Team Zion for this year’s Walk for Life a week from Saturday – This is a fund raiser for the A/N Pregnancy Center. As you prepare to come to church this Sunday, bring a donation to give to one of the people walking for our church. I will ask them to stand in the service and after service you find one of them and give them a donation. You don’t have to walk to participate.
Kids Own Worship is off and running! Yes, we officially have a junior church program at Zion Baptist. I want to thank my wife Sue for all her work to get our volunteers trained and this program organized. I hope Kids Own Worship will be a blessing to the families of our church for a long time.
As I’m writing this letter I saw the first Humming Bird of the season at Sue’s feeder – a sure sign that spring is here! I hope you have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday. I love you and love being your pastor.
In His Service with You,
